The City of Austin is urging residents to be prepared for possible flooding as heavy rainfall is expected to hit the area. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Travis and the surrounding counties, starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday through 7 a.m. on Thursday. The primary concerns are severe weather impacts with large hail and damaging winds, with the possibility of strong storms on Friday as well.

"Flash flooding can occur very quickly and without warning. It is important to be prepared in advance of a possible emergency," stated the City of Austin. They also emphasized the importance of understanding that roads near homes may flood before the homes themselves, and encouraged residents to report any flooding issues, traffic signals out, or debris in the roadway through the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app or by calling 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000.

For residents living in flood-prone areas or those with a history of flooding in their homes, the City of Austin advised taking precautions. "If you know you live in a floodplain or if your house has flooded in the past, consider taking the following precautions," they recommended. They also warned about the potential health risks associated with floodwater, including exposure to hazardous materials and bacteria, and advised seeking higher ground if water levels are rising.

In preparation for possible emergencies, the City of Austin reminded residents to keep a charged cell phone or battery-powered radio nearby to monitor local weather conditions. "Keep a charged cell phone or battery-powered radio close by to monitor local weather conditions," they advised, highlighting the importance of staying informed during such weather events.
