The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating the Officer-Involved Shooting that took place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Summer Grove apartment complex in Austin, Texas. The incident involved the now deceased suspect, Thomas Dray Price, a 44-year-old white male.

According to reports, multiple callers alerted authorities about a subject with a gun at the apartment complex. It was mentioned that the suspect had several individuals at gunpoint. The APD officers were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving the calls.

Upon arriving at the complex, officers searched for the disturbance and any potential injuries. They were directed to the suspect's location by an individual at the scene. The officers then made contact with several subjects in front of an apartment building, identifying themselves as "Austin Police" and instructing the individuals to show their hands.

At around 12:35 a.m., Thomas Dray Price emerged from the building holding a firearm. Despite repeated commands to drop the gun, Mr. Price raised the firearm towards the officers, leading to two officers discharging their firearms, ultimately striking him. Despite receiving immediate first aid, Mr. Price was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after.

The entire incident was captured on the officers' body-worn cameras, and the video will be released in accordance with APD policy. The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as having four and two years of service with the department.

In response to the incident, the APD will be conducting both a criminal investigation in collaboration with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office and an administrative investigation overseen by the APD Internal Affairs Unit and the Office of Police Oversight.
