The Austin Police Department (APD) is set to increase patrols in the downtown area to enforce traffic laws during Memorial Day Weekend. The initiative will be active from Thursday, May 22, through Monday, May 26.

APD’s DWI No Refusal Initiative has been extended to operate year-round. This enforcement effort runs from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., every day of the week throughout the year. It aims to enforce DWI laws, promote public safety by encouraging responsible driving decisions, and obtain blood search warrants for those who refuse breath or blood tests as required by law. The focus will also include highways, high-speed roadways, and waterways.

The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department remain committed to preventing fatalities on Austin’s streets, highways, and waterways. Their goal is to ensure safety for both residents and visitors through education and enforcement efforts.
