Austin police investigate suspected murder-suicide on McNeil Drive

On April 14, 2025, at approximately 8:43 a.m., law enforcement responded to a welfare check call at Onyx 183 apartments, located on 6800 McNeil Drive, Austin. The caller informed authorities about her missing friend. Upon arrival, Austin Police Department officers and Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services discovered two deceased individuals.

The deceased were identified as Jade Herb, born on June 10, 1999, and Christopher Rasco, born on October 10, 2001. After preliminary investigations conducted by Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists, evidence indicates a murder-suicide. Christopher Rasco allegedly killed Jade Herb, his girlfriend, before taking his own life.

Authorities have stated that this incident seems to be isolated, posing no danger to the general public.

The Austin Police Department encourages anyone with important information regarding the incident to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, available at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477.

This incident is currently being investigated as the 15th homicide in Austin for the year 2025.
