Restaurants have the opportunity to save money while contributing to environmental efforts by participating in the Zero Waste Business Rebate in Austin. According to Upstream, a non-profit organization behind the “Reuse Wins” report, businesses that transition from single-use to reusable serviceware can see consistent financial savings.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency highlights the important role restaurants play in tackling plastic waste and climate issues by opting for reusable options. The move towards sustainability not only makes financial sense but also garners positive responses from customers, who value zero-waste practices.
“In today’s climate-conscious world, zero waste matters to consumers,” the Upstream report states. “When restaurants take it upon themselves to do better, people take notice, post reviews, tell their friends and keep coming back.”
The City of Austin offers the Zero Waste Business Rebate, providing up to $3,000 in rebates for food-permitted businesses on eligible expenses. Interested businesses can find the full list of rebate opportunities and apply through the official city website. Applications are open until July 1 each year, contingent on fund availability.
Whether customers choose to dine in or take out, they are likely to appreciate the commitment to sustainability.
