AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin is launching the Land Development Academy, a program designed to offer residents a deeper understanding of land development requirements and the site plan review process. Starting May 6, the academy will offer a series of free virtual and in-person classes led by city experts.
The program will feature classes conducted by subject-matter experts from various departments, including the Development Services Department. Participants will gain insights into the Land Development Code and site plan review, aiming to enhance community knowledge about how these elements contribute to Austin’s growth while safeguarding safety, environmental, and quality of life standards.
Additionally, the program will include contributions from the Law, Planning, and Watershed Protection departments. Following each series of classes, participants will have an opportunity for informal “Coffee Chat” sessions with instructors to delve deeper into the covered topics.
The city initiated classes for its staff in 2024 as part of the Transforming Site Plan Review initiative. This community-focused version now extends the opportunity to property owners, developers, and interested community members.
Residents can visit the Land Development Academy’s website to learn more and to register for upcoming classes.
