Coral Rehabilitation and Nursing of Austin was identified as the third largest nursing home in Travis County in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility had 157 beds available, exceeding the county’s average by 43 beds during the same quarter. The center served an average of 68.5 residents over that period.

CMS assigned Coral Rehabilitation and Nursing of Austin an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which was below the Texas average rating of 2.7 for nursing homes.

Throughout the quarter, Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Duval led as the largest home in Travis County, offering 206 beds, followed by Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing C with 197 beds.

Coral Rehabilitation and Nursing of Austin accrued a total of $316,041 in six fines and received 10 penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Travis County, Texas, has 11 public nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older population is rising as younger groups shrink. Americans age 65 and older increased 13% between 2020 and 2024, compared to a 1.7% drop in those under 18. The population of older adults in the United States has greatly expanded over the past century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

Research from a 2021 study shows that nearly half of adults in this age category, estimated at 28 million people, are likely to need long-term services and support. The analysis also projects that more than a third may require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
