Fatal crash on E Riverside Dr results in one death

On May 17, 2025, at around 3:33 p.m., a collision occurred involving two vehicles in the 2300 block of E Riverside Dr. Officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the scene where a silver sedan and a white sedan were involved in the crash.

The passenger in the silver sedan was identified as Juanita Cortinas, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of this vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the white sedan suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

This incident marks Austin’s 32nd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in a total of 36 fatalities so far this year. Comparatively, on the same date last year, there had been 35 deaths due to fatal crashes. The investigation into this case is ongoing, and details may be subject to change as more information becomes available.
