U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul has announced that his office is currently accepting applications for students in Texas’ 10th district who are seeking a congressional nomination to a United States service academy. Each year, Congressman McCaul has the ability to nominate up to 15 candidates per service academy from his district. These candidates can then be considered for appointment at the United States Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military, and Naval Academies.

“It’s a privilege to nominate several of my district’s most outstanding young men and women to the United States service academies each year,” said Rep. McCaul. “I commend these brave and patriotic young Texans as they apply for a spot at one of these prestigious universities and look forward to their bright futures defending our nation.”

Applicants who wish to be considered for an appointment must meet the minimum admissions standards set by each individual service academy. Admission is based on multiple criteria, including SAT/ACT scores, class rank, physical aptitude scores, extracurricular activities, athletic abilities, medical examinations, and a panel interview.

The application process is currently open on a rolling basis from April 28, 2025, and will close on September 19, 2025. For further information or to request an application packet, interested individuals can contact the academy nominations coordinator, Destinee Vargas, via email at destinee.vargas@mail.house.gov or phone at (979) 431-6480.

Additional details can be found on Congressman McCaul’s Frequently Asked Questions page for those seeking a Service Academy Nomination.
