Motorcycle rider dies after hit-and-run collision on North Mopac Expressway

On May 6, 2025, at approximately 11:38 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle on the 2900 block of North Mopac Expressway NB. Upon arrival, officers found that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene. The motorcycle rider, identified as Shawn Oveisi, was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Tragically, Oveisi succumbed to his injuries on May 19, 2025.

This incident marks Austin’s 34th fatal crash in 2025, resulting in a total of 38 fatalities so far this year. For comparison, by this date in 2024, there were 24 fatal crashes with an equal number of deaths.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. “These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash,” noted APD officials. They added that “fatality information may change” as more details become available.
