Austin police investigate fatal shooting in East US HWY 290

On November 7, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 5:54 p.m. in the 6400 block of East US HWY 290 SVRD EB. Officers arrived to find Shelby Wayne Cody, a white male born on January 27, 1991, suffering from gunshot wounds.

The officers administered life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived. Mr. Cody was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. The investigation revealed that Mr. Cody had arrived for an appointment when he was shot by a suspect who then fled the area.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.

This incident marks Austin's 57th homicide of the year.
