In 2024, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) marked several significant milestones in its air service offerings. The year saw the introduction of new airlines and the addition of 11 nonstop destinations, enhancing travel options for passengers.
Viva Aerobus, a low-cost airline, joined AUS's roster this year. The airline launched nonstop flights to Monterrey, Mexico on March 22, 2024. Monterrey is known for its scenic mountains and rich cultural heritage. This development makes the city more accessible to travelers from Austin.
"Monterrey—known for its breathtaking mountains, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine—became more accessible than ever," an airport representative stated. Viva Aerobus had previously offered service to Monterrey beginning March 3, 2022. The route's popularity has prompted its return.
Additionally, British Airways celebrated a decade of service at AUS in 2024. For ten years, the airline has provided nonstop flights connecting Austin with London Heathrow Airport. "This nonstop service has been a gateway to Europe for travelers from Austin," according to AUS officials.
British Airways has played a key role in connecting Austin with international destinations over the past decade. "From their outstanding service to their state-of-the-art aircraft, they’ve continually raised the bar for international travel from Austin."
Throughout the year, airlines added a total of 11 new nonstop routes from AUS. These additions bring the total number of nonstop destinations available from AUS to 85.
The milestones achieved in 2024 reflect growth and increased connectivity at AUS. Each new destination and partnership represents progress towards meeting the needs of the region's expanding population.
