Finance report: Austin council member received more than $17,000 from lobbying firm, developer

Austin council member Jimmy Flannigan has received more than $17,000 in contributions from members of a real estate development company that has worked on several city projects, as well as a lobbying firm that has many real estate, business and events clients, according to his latest campaign finance report.

Flannigan's report filed July 15, states that he received $68,154.99 total in political contributions during his current campaign. His total amount of political expenditures was $11,651.45, with $1,433.67 as political expenditures of $100 or less.

As of the last day of the reporting period, there were $60,057.53 in total political contributions that were maintained. Pertaining to an outstanding loan, the total principal amount of all outstanding loans as of the last day was $4,695. The report also lists $800 in pledged contribution and $25 in non-political expenditures from political contributions.

The report lists 19 individual contributions from employees or members of Endeavor Real Estate Group. Endeavor has worked on several joint-city projects, including the Domain and the Plaza Saltillo.

The campaign finance report also lists 15 individual contributions from members or employees of Armbrust & Brown, a lobbying firm in Austin that has clients in business, events and real estate.

The 34 total contributors provided $17,700 in political contributions, according to the report.

Flannigan was first elected in 2016 to serve District 6. He is a small business owner and community advocate, according to his biography on the city's website.

Flannigan has focused on LGBTQ advocacy, including establishing Austin's LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission. He also worked to establish SEEN, an LGBTQ employee group.

Armbrust & Brown was formed in the early 1980s and has served Austin since. Its website states it has "stayed true" to Texas and focuses on participating in the growth of the city to make it "one of the most dynamic regions in the country."

Endeavor, which is also Austin based, specializes in project leasing, property management, sales, tenant representation and development. It has worked on several high-profile projects in Austin, such as IBC Bank Plaza, The Bowie and The Domain, according to its website.
