Austin, TX - A tragic traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, resulting in the death of a bicyclist. The incident took place in the 5600 block of E Parmer Lane, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).
The victim has been identified as Ashton Hutchison, a 31-year-old white male. Hutchison tragically lost his life at the scene of the crash. The APD is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The collision involved two vehicles and a bicycle. One of the drivers involved in the incident remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. However, the other driver initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. The suspect has been identified as Alexis Acevedo, a 19-year-old white male. Acevedo has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop and render aid.
This unfortunate incident marks the 87th fatal crash in Austin for the year 2023, resulting in a total of 90 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2022, there were 104 fatal crashes that resulted in 108 deaths. The APD is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into this incident and will provide updates as the case progresses.
Speaking on the matter, an APD spokesperson stated, "These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change."
