The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB MACC) in partnership with Austin Independent School District (AISD) and Academia Cuauhtli is inviting families, educators, community advocates, and members to join them for a special event titled Education with Heart: A Community Celebration. The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mendez Middle School.
The celebration aims to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Community Love Hub and Academia Cuauhtli, offering a range of activities and programs for attendees. According to the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, participants can "come celebrate the Community Love Hub and Academia Cuauhtli’s 10-year anniversary with fun hands-on activities, performances by local musicians and dancers, immigration and public health community resource workshops, demonstrations of afterschool clubs and programs, and workshops for teachers."
The Community Love Hub at Mendez Middle School, a new initiative by local community partners in collaboration with AISD, is designed to provide Dove Springs youth and families with free after-school enrichment programs, arts education, sports clubs, ESL classes, and community resources. The Center mentioned that "this hub will bring a much-needed safe learning environment, resources, and community gathering space for the Dove Springs community."
Academia Cuauhtli, a coalition of educators and community advocates, focuses on helping families explore their cultural heritage through an inclusive curriculum that centers on the language, art, and history of Latinx/a/o/e and Indigenous cultures. The organization provides various free extracurricular programs, including a Saturday bilingual arts program and a summer coding camp, offered in partnership with Aztech Kidz Code.
The Education with Heart event promises to be a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants, fostering a sense of community, cultural exploration, and education that goes beyond traditional boundaries.
