Austin, Apr 9 2024 - The Centro Cultural Mexicano Americano Emma S. Barrientos (ESB MACC), in partnership with the Austin Independent School District (AISD) and Academia Cuauhtli, is inviting families, educators, community advocates, and members to join them for "Educación con Corazón: Una celebración comunitaria" on a Saturday in May.
The event aims to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Community Love Hub and Academia Cuauhtli, featuring engaging activities, local musicians and dancers, workshops on immigration and public health resources, club demonstrations, extracurricular programs, and teacher workshops.
The Community Love Hub at Mendez Middle School, a collaboration between local community partners and AISD, is dedicated to providing Dove Springs youth and families with access to free extracurricular enrichment programs, arts education, sports clubs, ESL classes, community resources, and more. This center will offer a safe learning environment, resources, and a much-needed community gathering space for the Dove Springs community.
Academia Cuauhtli, comprising educators and community advocates, focuses on helping families explore their cultural heritage through an inclusive curriculum centered around language, art, and the history of Latinx/a/o/e and indigenous cultures. The academy offers various free extracurricular programs, including a bilingual art program on Saturdays and a summer coding camp in partnership with Aztech Kidz Code.
