The City of Austin's Urban Forest Grant Program is proud to announce the launch of the Tree Lotería Illustration Project, a dynamic initiative aimed at celebrating the intersection of art, culture, and nature in Central Texas.

"Drawing inspiration from a tradition dating back to the late 18th century, Lotería originated in Spain before captivating Mexican culture with its vibrant imagery and engaging gameplay. Resembling Bingo in its mechanics, this beloved game substitutes numbers with culturally significant illustrations representing various aspects of Mexican life." - Unknown source

"Now, the City of Austin is bringing a fresh twist to this classic game with the Tree Lotería Illustration Project. By featuring 54 native tree species accompanied by vibrant illustrations, this initiative aims to blend art, culture, and nature seamlessly." - Unknown source

"Through this project, we hope to engage community members in a fun and educational experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for Austin's urban forest and environmental awareness among family, friends, and nature enthusiasts alike." - Unknown source

"The selected artist will have the opportunity to breathe life into this vision, infusing each illustration with creativity, cultural resonance, and a deep connection to the local landscape. With a grant of $20,000, the project’s goal is to enrich educational resources, promote environmental stewardship, and inspire a sense of pride in Austin's natural heritage." - Unknown source

"Applications are now open for artists interested in participating in the Tree Lotería Illustration Project. Deadline to apply is May 10, 2024. For more information, visit austintexas.gov/loteria-trees." - Unknown source
