Traffic Fatality Reported on South Lamar Boulevard in Austin

Austin, Texas - April 11, 2024

Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a tragic incident on Wednesday, April 10, at the 2300 block of South Lamar Boulevard. The collision involved a vehicle and a pedestrian, resulting in the pedestrian being transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Regrettably, the pedestrian was later pronounced deceased.

According to the initial assessment of the incident, APD has classified this as Austin's 22nd fatal crash of 2024, marking 22 fatalities so far this year. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 29 fatal crashes resulting in 29 fatalities.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident stayed at the scene, was found not to be impaired, and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. An APD spokesperson stated, "These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending."

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event is still underway, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
