Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation of Francisco Muntufa Miranda

An arrest has been made in the homicide investigation of Francisco Muntufa Miranda, the Hispanic male who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident at the Avalon Palms apartment complex on Northgate Boulevard in Austin. The suspect, a juvenile male, has been apprehended after a thorough investigation by the Austin Police Department's Homicide Unit, Gang Suppression Unit, and Violent Crimes Task Force.

According to APD, the lead Detective in the case, Detective Gebhart, stated, "I hope this arrest, that was made possible through collaboration with the APD Gang unit and APD VCTF, will help bring some peace to Francisco’s family during this difficult time."

The arrested juvenile male was found in possession of multiple extended capacity pistol magazines linked to the murder weapon. Additionally, he was involved in other shootings, including a drive-by shooting at a convenience store in North Austin where multiple victims, including children, were present. The juvenile is facing charges of Murder and five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Another juvenile was also arrested in connection to the drive-by shooting incident. Both suspects have been taken into custody and booked into Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation into Francisco Muntufa Miranda's homicide began on January 8, 2024, and has now resulted in the apprehension of the individuals responsible for the crime. The Austin Police Department continues to urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

Detective Gebhart emphasized, "Anyone with any information should contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. You may submit your tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477."
