Austin-Bergstrom International Airport reports mixed results for June passenger and cargo traffic

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) reported a slight increase in passenger traffic for June 2024, with a total of 2,012,959 passengers, marking a 0.18% rise compared to June 2023. Enplanements for the month reached 1,022,786, reflecting a 0.21% increase.

Southwest Airlines saw a significant uptick in passengers, totaling 831,882—a 9.2% increase from the previous year. In contrast, American Airlines experienced a decline of 19.6%, with passenger numbers at 381,762. Delta Air Lines reported an increase of 29.7%, bringing their total to 325,320 passengers. United Airlines had a marginal rise of 0.2%, totaling 215,474 passengers.

Other airlines showed varied performance: Alaska Airlines decreased by 16.7% with 71,906 passengers; Allegiant Air dropped by 6% to reach 44,207 passengers; Spirit Airlines saw a substantial decrease of 61.1%, recording only 27,655 passengers; Frontier Airlines increased significantly by 133%, reaching 19,655 passengers; British Airways fell by 5.7% to total at 17,619 passengers; JetBlue Airways declined by 26.2%, with numbers at 16,563; and Air Canada increased by an impressive 67.7%, totaling at 15,699 passengers.

International air cargo for June totaled approximately two million pounds—a remarkable increase of over double compared to last year’s figures—while overall air cargo rose by more than sixteen percent to surpass twenty-five million pounds.

In terms of aircraft operations for June, general aviation operations totaled at just over three thousand—a decrease of eleven percent from last year—and combined commercial and military operations fell slightly by around two percent.

For the first half of the year (January through June), AUS saw an overall passenger traffic growth of nearly one percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Cargo transport also saw notable changes during this period: international air cargo increased significantly while mail transfers decreased sharply.

Overall aircraft operations continued on a downward trend both in general aviation and combined operations categories.
