On November 6, 2024, at around 8 p.m., a collision involving two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Dessau Road and Collinwood West Drive in Austin. Officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the scene. The driver of one vehicle was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to injuries on November 23, 2024. The second vehicle's driver remained unharmed and is cooperating with authorities.
The incident marks Austin’s 80th fatal crash in 2024, leading to a total of 85 fatalities for the year. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 76 fatal crashes resulting in 79 deaths.
"This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 80th fatal crash of 2024," APD reported. They also noted that "fatality information may change" as investigations continue.
