The Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center (ATCEOC) has been activated due to winter weather conditions. The response is being coordinated by Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) in collaboration with Travis County officials, other city service departments, and non-governmental organizations. Updates will be available online at austintexas.gov/alerts in 14 languages.
With forecasts predicting precipitation and lower temperatures on Thursday, the city will begin 24-hour cold weather sheltering operations tonight, continuing until Friday morning. This measure has led to the activation of the EOC.
Overnight Cold Weather Shelters are set up when temperatures drop to 35 degrees or lower overnight. If temperatures stay near freezing throughout the day, shelters may switch to continuous operations.
The EOC will remain active until further notice. Besides the Alerts page, updates will be shared on @AustinHSEM social media accounts on Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram, as well as official City of Austin social media channels. Community members are encouraged to follow local news for current information. HSEM will also ensure reporters have updated public information.
HSEM advises community members to take necessary precautions for themselves and their households, including pets. Preparedness information is available at ReadyCentralTexas.org.
Residents are reminded not to call 911 unless facing a medical or life-threatening emergency. For other services or assistance from the city, call 311 instead. This helps keep 911 lines open for emergencies so that first responders can be dispatched effectively.
To receive emergency alerts on your phone, visit WarnCentralTexas.org to register for notifications via text, call, or email.
The City will continue providing updates during the EOC activation and inform media accordingly. Residents are urged to stay safe and resilient during this period.
