Austin police investigate second homicide of 2025

On January 9, 2025, at approximately 1:44 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to an urgent welfare check call at 5707 Manor Road. A caller reported seeing a woman lying in a pool of blood in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found Kelly Meazell with apparent trauma. She was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were dispatched to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe this is an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

The APD encourages anyone with information to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.

This case marks Austin's second homicide of 2025.
