The Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center (ATCEOC) is continuing its operations in response to the current cold weather. Updates are available online at austintexas.gov/alerts in 14 languages.
Cold Weather Shelter (CWS) operations will resume for overnight shelter only, as Thursday's precipitation was limited to rain and temperatures are expected to stay above 35 degrees on Friday, January 10. Shelters will be cleared Friday morning for cleaning before reopening in the evening.
Registration for overnight shelter on Friday will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at One Texas Center (OTC), located at 505 Barton Springs Rd. This location serves as the central point for those seeking shelter. For more information, individuals can call the Cold Weather Shelter Hotline at 512-972-5055.
On Wednesday night, the City provided shelter to 340 individuals, with 229 opting to remain sheltered during Thursday's daytime hours due to a 24-hour activation.
Warming Centers are available during regular hours for those needing temporary relief from winter conditions. Additionally, Terrazas Branch Library will open early on Friday, January 10, at 8 a.m., and Saturday, January 11, from 8 a.m. until noon. Service animals are allowed in City facilities.
Residents are urged to protect themselves and their pets during this period of cold weather. Preparedness information is accessible online at ReadyCentralTexas.org.
The public is reminded not to call 911 unless experiencing a medical or life-threatening emergency. For non-emergency services or assistance from the City, residents should call 311. This helps keep emergency lines open for urgent situations requiring first responders.
