Nominations open for ESB MACC's annual Awards of Excellence

The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB MACC) has opened nominations for its annual Awards of Excellence. Established by the ESB MACC Advisory Board in 2009, these awards honor individuals in Austin who have shown leadership and made significant contributions to Latino/a/e/x cultural arts. For past winners from 2009 to 2024, visit AustinTexas.gov/MACCAWARDS.

Nominations can be submitted through an online form from January 27 to March 23, 2025. Residents of Austin and the Greater Austin Metropolitan area are eligible to submit nominations.

Eligible nominees include individuals or groups from any artistic discipline whose work impacts Latino/a/e/x cultural arts in Austin or the surrounding area. Self-nominations are not accepted, and City of Austin employees and officials cannot participate as nominators or nominees.

Nomination categories cover a range of achievements:

- Emerging Artist: Recognizes beginners to mid-career artists demonstrating excellence.

- The Arts: For professional artists in fields such as visual arts, dance, music, theater, radio, TV, film, performing arts, and history.

- Service: Honors outstanding service by volunteers or professionals in arts administration or community organizations.

- Arts Educator: Acknowledges commitment to education within cultural arts.

- Lifetime Achievement: Celebrates those with over 30 years of dedication to cultural arts.

- Posthumous Award: Given for significant lifetime contributions to cultural arts.
