Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting incident on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the 7800 block of N Lamar Boulevard. The incident involved the shooting of Christopher Hernandez, a white male born on December 13, 1989. Hernandez was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
According to the official report, the shooter claimed to have acted in self-defense. At the scene, it was discovered that Hernandez had been damaging the caller's property with a knife. When confronted, Hernandez allegedly threatened the caller with the knife, prompting the fatal shooting.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were deployed to investigate the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The Austin Police Department urges anyone with relevant information to come forward by contacting them at 512-974-TIPS or through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at 512-472-8477. The investigation is ongoing, and the case has been classified as Austin's 10th homicide of 2024.
