The Austin Nature and Science Center will host an informative event featuring expert and educator Dawn Davies during the Full-Moon Swim on March 25. Davies, the Hill Country Alliance’s Night Sky Program Manager, brings a wealth of experience in astronomy outreach and dark sky preservation to the event. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and telescopes to observe the night sky and receive assistance from other astronomers and enthusiasts. Free eclipse glasses will also be provided during the event.
The highlight of the gathering will be a discussion about the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Austin is set to witness this rare celestial event in the path of totality, a phenomenon that won't recur in the city for another 319 years. Those interested in obtaining eclipse glasses and bookmarks can do so at select Austin Parks and Recreation locations starting March 11.
