An arrest has been made in connection to the tragic traffic fatality at the intersection of 7th Street and Red River Street. The suspect involved in the incident has been identified as Tyrone Thompson, a 23-year-old black male.
"As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the suspected driver as Tyrone Thompson. Thompson was involved in another crash on Tuesday morning in Travis County and was arrested on unrelated charges," stated the authorities.
The victim of the fatal crash was identified as Cody Jordon Shelton. The second victim remains hospitalized in critical condition following the incident that occurred in Downtown Austin.
The initial report of the incident indicated that the suspect vehicle did not remain on the scene and continued traveling east on East 7th street. The Austin Police Department (APD) is treating this as the 13th fatal crash of 2024 in the city, resulting in 13 fatalities for the year.
