Austin police report results of Memorial Day No Refusal initiative

The Austin Police Department conducted a DWI No Refusal Initiative over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The enforcement initiative was in effect each night from Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27, 2024.

During this period, a total of 31 DWI arrests were made. The breakdown of these arrests includes:

- Blood search warrants: 10

- Consent breath samples: 16

- Consent blood samples: 5

Among those arrested, the following had enhanced DWI charges:

- Consent breath samples over .15: 5

- Class A misdemeanor DWI (with prior conviction): 2

The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department continue to focus on preventing lives from being lost on Austin's streets, highways, and waterways. The department is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement.
