On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a robbery at the Taste of Home Handmade Dumpling Restaurant, located at 10901 N Lamar Boulevard. The caller stated someone had tried to rob him with a knife and that he had shot the subject. The caller, later identified as Hao Li, stated the subject with the knife then fled the area.
Robbery Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Hao Li was a Mandarin speaker and had exited the restaurant when he saw Chup Prum on a bicycle. Prum then pulled out a knife and approached Hao Li. Hao Li pulled out a firearm and shot Prum. Prum then rode off on his bicycle, returning to his home, and was later transported to the hospital. He died as a result of his gunshot wound on July 28, 2024.
There will be no charges filed at this time. This case was staffed with the Travis County district attorney’s office on August 5, 2024.
