Dangerous fire conditions have prompted the Parks and Recreation Department to implement a burning restriction in Central Texas. Effective October 16, 2024, this measure aims to protect park visitors and nearby communities while reducing wildfire risks in the city's parks, greenbelts, and preserves. The restriction will remain until weather conditions improve.

The restriction bans fires and grilling in all City of Austin parks, greenbelts, and preserves as per Ordinance No. 20111102-025. This includes wood or charcoal BBQ pits, grills, and smokers. However, propane stoves are permitted only in designated picnic areas. Smoking is always prohibited in these areas.

Park Rangers will enforce the restriction with fines ranging from $300 to $500 for violations. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department will monitor fire conditions closely and lift the restriction when it is deemed safe. Updates will be provided through press releases.
