On the night of October 15, 2024, Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash on the 5600 block of South IH-35 SVRD NB. The driver involved in the incident was identified as Emmanuel Bioko-Makoli, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
This accident marks Austin's 71st fatal crash for the year 2024, resulting in a total of 76 fatalities. In comparison, by this date in 2023, there had been 72 fatal crashes leading to 75 deaths.
The APD stated that "these statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending." They also noted that "fatality information may change" as further details emerge.
