Suspect arrested in connection with fatal crash on Hart Lane

Detectives from the Vehicular Homicide Unit have identified a suspect in a fatal crash that occurred on August 7, 2024, in the 6800 block of Hart Lane. The suspect, Jeremy Josue Giron Hernandez, was found to be the driver of a stolen vehicle involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Andrew Fonseca Reyes.

An arrest warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for Giron Hernandez on October 1, 2024. He was subsequently arrested on October 8, 2024, in Williamson County. This case marks Austin's 55th homicide of the year.

The original incident took place at approximately 2:36 a.m., when officers from the Austin Police Department responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash. Andrew Fonseca Reyes, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead on August 8, 2024. The driver and two other passengers fled the scene following the crash.

This event is recorded as Austin’s 50th fatal crash for the year, resulting in a total of 53 fatalities by that date. In comparison, there were 56 fatal crashes leading to 59 deaths by this time last year.

The investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing and initial statements may be subject to change. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111 or submit tips anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
