Austin police investigate fatal shooting on East US HWY 290

On November 7, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a shooting incident at approximately 5:54 p.m. in the 6400 block of East US HWY 290 SVRD EB. Officers arrived to find Shelby Wayne Cody, a white male born on January 27, 1991, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, APD officers administered life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) took over. Mr. Cody was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were dispatched to process the scene and interview witnesses. According to the investigation, Mr. Cody had arrived for an appointment when he was shot by an unidentified suspect who subsequently fled the area.

The Austin Police Department is urging anyone with information about this case to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
