The Austin Police Department (APD) is actively investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on January 11, 2025, in Lockhart, Texas. The incident occurred at 7:58 p.m. in the 900 Block of South 1st Street. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
Two investigations are underway: a criminal investigation led by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers and a review by the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office, alongside an administrative investigation by APD's Internal Affairs Unit with oversight from the Office of Police Oversight.
"Transparency and accountability are key elements needed to serve and build relationships within the Austin and surrounding communities," stated the department.
On January 11, at approximately 5 p.m., APD's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit responded to assist another agency in Lockhart. The shooting happened at around 7:34 p.m., resulting in one suspect being shot and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
The SWAT Team frequently provides mutual aid to other agencies while adhering to their respective policies and procedures for operations.
The DPS Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, with the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office reviewing it. At their request, this incident will not be classified as an APD Critical Incident Briefing (CIB), so no materials will be released.
