On March 16, 2025, the Austin Police Department responded to a fatal collision at the intersection of W Braker Ln and N Mopac Expwy SVRD NB. The incident involved a vehicle and a motorcycle. Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 8:17 p.m., where they found that the motorcyclist had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the deceased male has not been released.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash stayed at the site and is cooperating with authorities as they continue their investigation. Both the driver and a passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries.
This incident marks Austin's 17th fatal traffic accident of 2025, contributing to a total of 21 fatalities so far this year. By comparison, on this same date last year, there were also 17 fatal crashes but resulted in fewer overall deaths.
"The statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash," said an APD spokesperson, noting that "the investigation is still pending." They added that "fatality information may change" as more details become available.
