Martha, a retired director of medical records from the Austin Diagnostic Clinic, has concluded her 17 and a half years of volunteer service at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. She joined the airport's Ambassador Volunteer Program in 2008, seeking an engaging part-time opportunity post-retirement.
Martha's role extended beyond merely assisting travelers at the Visitor Information Center in Baggage Claim. Her dedication included helping passengers navigate the airport and offering support during medical emergencies. Many travelers appreciated her warm demeanor and helpful nature.
Reflecting on her time as a volunteer, Martha said, "It was a great experience for me, and I also had fun people-watching. One of the perks I really appreciated was the 'free' parking when I was traveling from the airport." As she retires for a second time, she expressed that she will miss her coworkers.
The AUS Airport Ambassadors Program is designed to provide exceptional customer service to visitors. Volunteers gain expertise in airport operations and receive updates from the Department of Aviation. Benefits include discounts at airport stores and restaurants, free Cap Metro I-Ride cards for commuting, special recognition at social events, and free airport parking. Interested individuals can contact the Visitor Information Center Supervisor via email or phone.
Martha's contributions have left a lasting impact on both travelers and colleagues at AUS. Her commitment to service over nearly two decades is celebrated by all who have encountered her.
