The City of Austin has conducted a cleanup operation at a private property located at 6706 Bluff Springs Road, which had become the site of an expanding homeless encampment. The effort was led by the City's Homeless Strategy Office and the Development Services Department’s Code Compliance team, with support from several local agencies including the Austin Police Department and Travis County Constables Precinct 4.
The encampment had grown rapidly near an electrical substation in southeast Austin while city officials tried to contact MT Properties LLC, the Delaware-based owner of the property. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to reach a representative and obtain voluntary compliance, city authorities decided that immediate action was necessary to address municipal code violations and ensure public safety.
During the cleanup process, 25 individuals and three dogs were relocated to the City’s Marshalling Yard Emergency Shelter. This facility offers housing-focused case management and climate-controlled accommodations for pets. Additionally, one cat was taken by Austin Animal Services Officers to the Austin Animal Center, where it will be available for adoption after a three-day hold period.
The City plans to continue its code compliance activities on this private property next week. Property owners are required under Municipal Code to maintain their land in a safe and sanitary condition. Non-compliance could lead to fines, cost recovery for abatement actions, or legal proceedings.
Residents noticing questionable conditions or temporary structures at this location are urged to report them by contacting 3-1-1 or using the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app available on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
