Every weekend in April, the Austin Police Department will increase efforts to address impaired driving in Downtown Austin. This initiative will see Drug Recognition Expert Officers deployed on Friday and Saturday nights, with a focus on targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The aim is to prioritize community safety. According to the department, "Every impaired driver that officers catch is one less potential danger on the road." The police urge the public to understand that "driving under the influence is not only illegal, but reckless and unacceptable." They encourage people to make responsible decisions, such as using ride-sharing services or designating a driver when drinking.

The campaign is underscored by the message: "Don't drink and drive. #EndTheStreakTX"
