Thousands of small businesses in Williamson County that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic received much-needed financial relief from the county’s Wilco Forward program.
The Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce reported that the program issued 3,662 checks for a total of more than $34.2 million.
A total of 4,194 businesses applied with the Williamson County Auditor’s Office from May 6 to June 30, with 466 applications declined because they were duplicates. As of July 15, 66 more applications are under review.
Funding from the CARES Act – $35 million out of the county’s $93 million allotment to be exact – made the initiative possible.
“Our small business owners are a vital part of our community and the backbone of our economy, which is why the success of the Wilco Forward program was crucial to providing funds that would help them stay in business,” Williamson County Commissioner Valerie Covey said on the Cedar Park Chamber’s website.
