On April 6, 2025, Austin police officers were dispatched to a traffic fatality incident involving two vehicles at the intersection of S. Capital TX Highway SB and Lost Creek Blvd. The accident, occurring in the afternoon, resulted in the death of Mendi Leggett, identified as a white female born on March 11, 1962. Leggett was traveling in the second vehicle involved.
Authorities reported that two other passengers from Leggett's vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital, although their injuries were not life-threatening. The driver and passenger in the first vehicle emerged unscathed. Austin Police Department confirmed that the first vehicle's driver was not impaired and cooperated with their inquiries.
This incident marks Austin's 23rd fatal crash of the year and has contributed to the city's traffic fatalities reaching a total of 27. A year ago on the same date, Austin had documented 21 fatal collisions, resulting in 21 deaths. Austin Police emphasized that the current investigation is still active, and the circumstances may be subject to change as new information arises.
