Austin's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) is organizing its next Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up event on April 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hampton Branch Library at Oak Hill. This initiative is part of a monthly series held in every City Council District on the third Wednesday of each month.

Representatives from HSEM, alongside other city departments and emergency response partners, will be present to offer tips, information, and supplies. The event will provide the first 25 visitors with an emergency supply kit, limited to one per household. The kits contain items valued over $100, including a backpack, lanterns, glow sticks, battery-powered chargers, NOAA weather radios, Neighborhood Preparedness Guides, and supplies for children and pets.

"The variety of hazards in Central Texas highlights the importance of knowing the appropriate steps before, during, and after emergencies," states HSEM. Residents are encouraged to attend these pop-ups, as Central Texas experiences risks from floods, wildfires, extreme heat, and winter storms.
