Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Sees Passenger and Cargo Traffic Growth in October 2023

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) experienced a positive growth in passenger and cargo traffic in October 2023, according to the latest data released by the airport. The passenger traffic for the month saw a 1.91% increase compared to October 2022, with a total of 2,040,383 passengers flying during the month.

Among the airlines operating at the airport, Southwest Airlines recorded a 4.1% increase in passengers, while Delta Air Lines saw a significant growth of 21.2%. However, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines experienced a decline in passenger numbers, with decreases of 6.4% and 22.8% respectively.

In terms of cargo traffic, October 2023 saw a decrease of 11.75% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 23,725,835 pounds of air cargo. However, international air cargo showed a positive trend, with a 41.58% increase compared to October 2022.

The data also revealed the top airlines in terms of cargo transportation. Federal Express carried the highest amount of cargo with 6,319,866 pounds, followed by Air Transport International with 4,736,539 pounds.

Looking at the overall performance from January to October 2023, the airport witnessed a 4.88% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2022. The total passenger traffic for the first ten months of the year reached 18,381,789.

Southwest Airlines remained the leading airline with the highest number of passengers, recording a 4.4% increase. Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also saw significant growth, with increases of 12.5% and 15.7% respectively. However, American Airlines experienced a decline of 3.9% in passenger numbers.

In terms of cargo traffic from January to October 2023, there was a decrease of 11.05% compared to the previous year. The total air cargo for the period amounted to 231,563,935 pounds. On the positive side, international air cargo showed a significant increase of 39.12% compared to the same period in 2022.

Despite the challenges faced by the aviation industry, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport continues to see growth in passenger and cargo traffic. The airport's efforts to attract and retain airlines have resulted in positive outcomes, with several airlines experiencing growth in passenger numbers. The increase in international air cargo also highlights the airport's role as a vital hub for global trade.

As the year comes to a close, the airport remains optimistic about the future and is committed to providing excellent service to both passengers and cargo customers.
