Austin Police Department (APD) detectives are currently searching for leads in connection to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that took place at Barton Creek Mall on Saturday, December 16, 2023. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. when shots were fired, resulting in one male individual sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
According to preliminary information provided by APD, the incident stemmed from a private party sale of merchandise arranged through a social media platform. Four males, two from each party, met up at the mall to complete the transaction. The victim, who was part of one of the parties, did not have any prior acquaintance with the other individuals involved.
Unfortunately, the meeting took a violent turn, leading to a physical altercation and ultimately the shooting. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the incident. APD emphasizes that this was an isolated event and assures the public that there is no ongoing threat to their safety.
In response to the incident, APD is increasing directed patrols in the area to provide a heightened sense of security. Detective urges anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. He stated, "We are actively seeking any information that can help us identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for this aggravated assault.
