The City of Austin has released a list of closures and schedule changes for New Year's Day 2024. Various departments and facilities will be affected, including Austin Resource Recovery, Austin Public Health, City of Austin Utilities, Austin Parks and Recreation, Austin Public Library, and the Austin Animal Center.

Austin Resource Recovery will adjust its trash, recycling, and composting collections due to the holiday. All collections will slide forward one day for the entire week, taking place one day later than regularly scheduled. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center will be closed on January 1st but will be open by appointment for the remainder of the week. Additionally, Austin Water's Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will be closed for yard trimmings and large brush drop off on New Year's Day.

Austin Public Health will have several closures on January 1st. This includes Environmental Health Services at the Rutherford Lane Campus, the Office of Vital Records, all WIC and Shots for Tots clinics, and Neighbor Centers. However, COVID-19 tests will still be available at private and non-profit sites throughout Austin, such as pharmacies, hospitals, and urgent care centers. Those with private insurance can contact their doctor's office or insurer for assessment and testing options.

The City of Austin Utilities Customer Care Call Center and City of Austin Utility Customer Service Centers will be closed on New Year's Day. Customers can make utility payments online or by phone using the Quick Payment option. Other payment options include paying at authorized locations or mailing a money order or check to a designated address. Power outages can be reported online or by phone.

Most Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on January 1st, with a few exceptions. All pools, except for Barton Springs Pool, will be closed, while Golf ATX courses will remain open. City of Austin cemetery gates will also remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Facility hours for Austin Parks and Recreation vary by location, so it is advised to call ahead or visit the official website for specific hours.

The Austin Public Library will be closed on December 31st and January 1st, 2024. However, library resources are available remotely through the Austin Public Library website.

The Austin Animal Center will close at 3 p.m. on December 31st and will be closed on New Year's Day. Normal operating hours will resume on January 2nd.
