The City of Austin has recently been alerted to a fraudulent website that is impersonating the Park ATX app, a paid parking application. At least three users have reported that the website requested their credit card information but did not allow them to initiate a parking session.

Upon receiving these reports, the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department promptly launched an investigation into the matter. They discovered that a sponsored website, which is not affiliated with the City, appears at the top of Google search results when users search for "Park ATX" on a mobile browser. Despite the City's efforts in notifying the official Park ATX vendor, Passport, and reporting the issue to Google, the fraudulent advertisement remained active as of the morning of January 5th.

To address this issue, the City urges users to only search for the "Park ATX" app through the Google Play and Apple App Store, rather than using a web browser. The website impersonating Park ATX can be found under the domain name am5.com. Furthermore, the City provides official links to download the app on both iOS and Android platforms at AustinTexas.gov/ParkATX. The app itself enables users to conveniently pay, extend, and manage their on-street parking sessions using their mobile devices.

In light of this incident, the City of Austin emphasizes the importance of caution and vigilance when engaging with online platforms. Users should be aware of potential scams and only trust official sources for their digital transactions.

As the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department works diligently to address this issue, they continue to provide safe, reliable, and accessible mobility services for all Austinites. To learn more about their efforts and services, please visit AustinTexas.gov/TPW.
