U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) has expressed his excitement and support for Texas A&M University being named as one of the Space Strategic Technology Research Institutes by the U.S. Space Force. In a statement, Rep. McCaul stated, "I am thrilled the U.S. Space Force has named Texas A&M as one of its Space Strategic Technology Research Institutes. The United States was the first country to land a man on the moon – and it is critical we continue to lead the world in what has now become a space race 2.0."
Rep. McCaul emphasized the importance of maintaining America's leadership in space exploration and technology development. He praised Texas A&M University for its dedication to research and development in the field of space operations, particularly the work being done by Dr. Ambrose and his team at the RELLIS campus.
"The RELLIS campus is on the leading edge of research and development for many of our most challenging threats in space," Rep. McCaul said.
Texas A&M University System, with a budget of $7.8 billion, is one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation. It comprises 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. The system plays a crucial role in educating over 153,000 students and making more than 23 million additional educational contacts through service and outreach programs each year. Additionally, the Texas A&M System's research and development expenditures exceed $1 billion, contributing significantly to the state's economy.
