APD Detectives Search for a Suspect in Connection to an Armed Robbery

The Austin Police Department (APD) Robbery Unit is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that took place at the Matamoros taco truck on the 9400 N IH 35 SB frontage road. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at around 12:38 a.m.

According to reports, the suspect approached the taco truck and brandished a black handgun, threatening two employees. He demanded money before discharging a single gunshot inside the trailer. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The APD has released a description and photo of the suspect. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 20 to 25 years old, standing at around 5' 8" tall, and weighing approximately 180 lbs. He has a medium build and is fluent in Spanish. The suspect was last seen wearing an orange or peach colored sweatshirt with white lettering that reads "DESTIN Florida." He was also wearing black jeans with white design or fraying at the sides, a blue-green and gray shirt wrapped around his head as a mask, and red and black sneakers.

APD Detective John Smith emphasized the importance of community assistance in solving this case, stating, "We urge anyone with any information about the suspect or the incident to come forward and help us bring this individual to justice. Your information could be crucial in our investigation."

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact APD's Robbery Unit at 512-974-5092. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. There is a possibility of a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
