On Friday, January 12, 2024, tragedy struck in the 11441 N IH 35 - Cricket Hollow Apartments as a shooting incident took the life of Cleiver Gamez-Santos, an 11/22/2001 born Hispanic male. The Austin Police Department (APD) swiftly responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 7:54 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately halted a vehicle matching the description provided by 911 callers. Inside the vehicle, they discovered Gamez-Santos, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The officers wasted no time in rushing him to a nearby hospital, but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at 8:40 p.m.
In the wake of this tragic incident, the APD's Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were promptly deployed to the location to meticulously process the scene for any potential evidence. As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that the shooting had taken place within the apartment complex. Gamez-Santos was being driven away from the scene when the vehicle was intercepted by the officers.
With this case now marked as Austin's 5th homicide of 2024, the Austin Police Department is appealing to the public for any information that may aid in solving this crime.
