AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin Housing Department, in collaboration with the NHP Foundation, Capital A Housing, and the Austin Housing Finance Corporation, celebrated the groundbreaking of the Seabrook Square multi-family development in East Austin. The development, located at 2210 Pershing Drive, will consist of 204 affordable units on approximately three acres of land.

Mandy DeMayo, Interim Deputy Director of the Housing Department, expressed excitement about the project, stating, "The Seabrook Square groundbreaking shows exciting progress in our collective efforts to bring more affordable housing options to Austinites." She emphasized the importance of all partners working together to create an inclusive community that supports the well-being of the J.J. Seabrook neighbors.

The Seabrook Square development aims to provide maximum affordability for residents and local businesses. Robert Jefferson, Senior Development Director at NHPF, highlighted the significance of partnering with local organizations, stating, "Partnering with local organizations to complement strengths in the service of bringing much-needed affordable housing to Austin residents is a crucial step in the effort to fill the region’s housing needs."

The Seabrook Square development will offer a range of amenities, including parking spaces, commercial space for local businesses, a large public plaza, live/work units, locally curated murals, and a community center for residents. Conor Kenney, Principal of Capital A Housing, emphasized the commitment of the team to go beyond the generic apartment building approach, stating, "Seabrook Square will be so much more - everything from the landscaping to the cafe to the live-work spaces are going to be a symbol of what everyone on this team is committed to doing for our community."

The financing for Seabrook Square was made possible through collaboration between the NHP Foundation, AHFC, and Capital A Housing. The project received $74.5 million in construction financing, marking a significant milestone in the development process. The estimated move-in date for tenants is July 2025.

Seabrook Square is named after Dr. John Jarvis Seabrook, a Black educator, pastor, and community leader in Austin. The development aims to be inclusive and harmonize with the cultural history of the area. The first phase, Seabrook Square I, consists of 204 affordable units, while the second phase, Seabrook Square II, will include 60 units of permanent supporting housing.

The City of Austin Housing Department, the Austin Housing Finance Corporation, and the NHP Foundation are committed to delivering much-needed affordable housing to the residents of Austin. The development of Seabrook Square is a testament to their dedication and partnership with local organizations.
